About Our Pastor

Welcome.  My name is Reverend Suzanne Lee Andrews. I am the senior pastor at our church and I have been serving First Baptist Church since April 2004.  Prior to that I was a Pastor at the First Congregational Church in West Brattleboro, VT, and a Pastor at the South Newfane, VT, Baptist Church.  I am a graduate of Andover Newton Theological  School which is located in Newton Center, MA, where I received a Master of Divinity degree.  I completed my student ministry at Contoocook Methodist church in Contoocook, NH. I completed my student chaplaincy (CPE) at Dartmouth Hitchock Hospital, Hanover, NH.

My late husband John Curtis and I were very active at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brattleboro VT.  I had several different positions at the church including choir director, Sunday school teacher and for approximately 10 years I was the Assistant Minister. I was baptized Catholic as an infant and baptized by immersion at First Baptist Church. I have one grown son named Randy and the best daughter-in-law a parent could ask for "Sonja."  I  have three wonderful grand children, Twins Randy and Riley, and a grand daughter Morgan born in March 2009.  I married my soulmate Ron in October 2008. Ron  is active in the church with me, and  likes to be referred to as the "Humble Potato Peeler".  We live in a small New England town in nearby Massachusetts with our dogs.  My passion is helping people and animals.

I am a member of the Interfaith Clergy Group of the Brattleboro area, a member of the Drop-In Center Board of Directors in Brattleboro.  I am also a chaplain for the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital and have been for 19 years.
I was very active in Habitat for Humanity for approximately 4 years, with the Brattleboro branch, where I served on the Board of Directors and also took part in actually helping build a home and hammering nails in one of the new houses that we built, and for a few moments I was a carpenter. Yes a carpenter, wow!   I also served as a  Past President of the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. I was a member of the Building a Better Brattleboro Association.  (BaBB)

I was born in Peabody MA as My parents Charlie and Marilyn Ploss were driving through the community.  They were living in Marblehead, MA, at the time and that became my home for many years. I also lived in Salem, MA, Beverly, MA, Byfield, MA growing up. I attended high school in Newburyport, MA and graduated high school from Merrimac High School, Merrimac MA. I attended college at Manchester Community College,  Manchester, CT, and graduated with a degree in Psychology from Keene State College, Keene, NH.

We have a wonderful congregation which is comprised of all ages, a mix of social standings, and varying faith backgrounds.  What we have in common is our love for Christ Jesus and our profession that He is our Lord and Savior.  We believe that Jesus was joy-filled and came to Earth to serve and, as such, so should we be filled with joy and strive always to joyfully serve in His name.

Whether you're passing through the area or settling-in, we invite you to visit us and consider becoming part of our church family.

We are all equal in the eyes of God and we welcome everyone.
